Sounds Downtown Kicks Off Summer with Music, Art, and Community
The streets of downtown West Plains came alive on June 19th as Sounds Downtown launched its summer series with a soulful celebration of music, art, and community. Held on Juneteenth, the evening featured live performances by local talents Mark Barger and Phil Wages, whose music filled the air from 5:30 to 8:00 PM.
Over 60 community members gathered with lawn chairs and popsicles in hand, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere. Some enjoyed a refreshing pint delivered straight from Dev’s Steakhouse, adding a local flavor to the festivities.
As the music played, local artist Garrett Melby captured the spirit of the evening by painting a powerful portrait of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., inspired by the significance of the day and the rhythms echoing through the streets.
Sounds Downtown is a free monthly concert series held on the third Thursday of each month from 6-8pm, bringing people together to celebrate local talent and the heart of downtown West Plains. Don’t miss the next one—bring a chair, bring a friend, and enjoy the sounds of summer!
